Micro-Credentials at FNTI

FNTI’s micro‑credentials are rooted in culture and designed as rapid training opportunities that help individuals build new skills or retrain. Our goal is to support community prosperity through knowledge, service, and employment.

Each micro‑credential includes consists of 15 hours of instruction and/or independent study. Anyone may register to participate, as there are no prerequisites. Micro‑credentials may be facilitated by a teaching team of faculty, cultural advisors, and student success facilitators, or offered in a self‑paced format.

Self‑paced micro‑credentials are independent learning modules that include self‑assessments and other learning activities. These activities are checked for completion by a facilitator, who provides feedback as work is submitted. Access to a computer is required to complete the micro‑credential.

Indigenous Relations

Learners taking the Indigenous Relations bundle will learn about the history of Indigenous relations on Turtle Island and will be asked to address the contrasting worldviews that have often resulted in misunderstanding, discrimination, and racism toward Indigenous peoples in Canada today.  The main objective is to increase understanding of Indigenous nation-to-nation relations within Canada, while enhancing participants’ sensitivity and understanding of their own accountability moving forward. Additionally, we will address how participants could engage in a meaningful way to enhance relationships with Indigenous peoples as professionals from a wide variety of sectors.  Upon successful completion of this bundle, learners will have the knowledge and skills to confidently address racism within the workplace and act as advocates, peacemakers and teachers willing to become part of the larger discussion to end discrimination, systemic racism and hate.
